Downtown Music Festival Takes Over LES May 10th,11th
In a little less than three weeks, expect the Lower East Side to get a bit louder. Bringing a full slate of artists on a nationwide tour, this New York event started out in 2011, and this year is traveling outside the borders of the burroughs, with six additional festival dates in the downtown areas of Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver and Las Vegas. That’s right: the Downtown Music Festival is coming, and we hope you’ll join us at the events in a city near you.
In NYC, the venues will include some our favorites, like Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, Angel Orensanz, Pianos, Cake Shop, Tammany Hall, and Element. Spread over two nights, Friday May 10th and Saturday May 11th, you can expect a wide range of genres and intimate performances. It’s a summer festival of a very different nature, bringing great acts to urban areas. The lineup is pretty great- we’re most excited about Purity Ring (link goes to the video of one of their hits, “Fireshrine”) but rap and hip-hop fans will get a dose of Black Hippy and Earl Sweatshirt on Friday, as well as other alternative and indie bands like Sky Ferreira, Palma Violets, Beach Fossils, Royal Teeth, and Teengirl Fantasy.
On Saturday, we’re looking forward to Brooklyn’s own DIIV, along with Trash Talk and Inc., California-based groups that offer very different sounds, as well as Black Dave and Ducktails. Whether you’re a metal or rock fan, they’ll be something for you!
Tickets are available now- $65 for a one-day pass, or $99 for a two-day pass that covers everything, including access to all of the musical performance. It’s a great deal- what you might spend to go see a single big act in a stadium instead gets you access to a weekend full of up-and-coming acts in small-scale concerts that you’re sure to be able to brag about to your friends. VIP tickets are also available for $150, and includes access to a special bar and viewing area as well as two drink tickets and early admission. Pick them up now before they sell out, and mark your calendars!
